does anyone know if cinnamon is effective for treatment with diabetes?

March 27th, 2010 by renske

My mom has diabetes and i want to help her control her type 2 diabetes. i have read in some articles that cinnamon can lower blood sugars? Is there anyone who currently uses cinnamon for treatment of their diabetes? As much as possible i would like a personal experience on the effectiveness of cinnamon and what form of cinnamon (powder, capsules, etc) and how much should be taken. I hope you can help me. Thanks.

Wedding cake for diabetics / diabetes? Ok – I am having an issue with one and need yahoo help. Thanks?

March 26th, 2010 by renske

I have asked a number of questions about wedding favors – simply to narrow down the possibilities. Taking one question that I had and once that got answered, came up with a similiar one. Here’s the thing… I think I have settled on the “send off” favors for our guests… 4 Lindor truffles in a box. with a ribbon and a thank you note. The total cost came to about $1.62 each – which is much less than the $10 per person an afterparty would cost.

Initially, I had wanted to do sugar free cookies (kind of to go along with one of the charities (american diabetes association). But after asking a question on yahoo between the truffles and the cookies, truffles won out. So I planned to make three bags of the cookies – one for my great uncle, one for my grandfather, and one for myself – as we are all diabetics.

And I was fine with that – and never thought of the cake. I shouldn’t eat sugar. But I do. But really shouldn’t. I figured a few bites of wedding cake wouldn’t matter. But now..
I work at a catering hall, but also work at a bridal shop & today met a bride who was getting ready for her own wedding but told me about a friends wedding where that friend was diabetic. What that girl did was have a sheet cake in the back & have on display, for pictures & cutting was a pie crust with a mousse-like filling topped with lots of plain fresh fruit. It wasn’t a big cake but just enough to serve people with sugar issues, everyone else got the plain cake cake in the back. & today’s bride told me that she got to taste her friends cake & it was so good that more people wanted the fruit cake instead!

So now what I am wondering is… what do you – the people on yahoo – feel I should do for my own wedding? Have a bite of sugar loaded cake that I can’t (shouldn’t) eat or have the baker create some ’splenda’ creation for all guests.

What do you think?

PS – I have had type 1 diabetes for nearly 25 years. the donation will be earmaked for research for juvenile diabetes.

3 Top Treatments For Blackheads Removal

March 23rd, 2010 by renske

Blackhead is a type of acne vulgaris. It is usually caused by clogged pores and an accumulation of toxic oils expelled by the body. People with combination and oily skin are most susceptible to having blackheads. They also tend to have problems with enlarged pores and excess sebum.

Most people will try to squeeze out the blackheads and whiteheads on the skin. However, this is not the best way to get rid of them. There is even the danger of scarring the skin tissue when not done properly. Here we will look at top 3 treatments for blackheads.

1) Benzoyl Peroxide – This contains antibacterial properties that can help to reduce the congestions at the pores. It is very effective in treating mild comedones as well as preventing new ones from forming.

2) Alpha Hydroxyl Acid – This is primarily a derivative of either can sugar, fruit acids or milk acids. This solution works at unclogging the pores to remove whiteheads. It also boost skin cell regeneration and helps to give that radiant glow on the skin.

3) Salicylic Acid – This solution helps to cut down excess oils on the skin as well as removing dead skin cells on the surface. It is very effective for blackhead removal.

Other treatments include Accutane and Tretinoin (vitamin A). However, these two treatments are very strong and often come with side effects. In most cases, using any of the 3 agents mentioned above can control blackheads and whiteheads. You should start the product slowly and use sparingly at the beginning. After your skin is used to the product, you can slowly increase the strength of the solution.

A Home Remedy For Blackhead Removal

March 23rd, 2010 by renske

We’ve all seen the adverts and websites for the various brands of blackhead extractors and blackhead removers and although they seem like the easy way to remove the unsightly blackheads, the sad fact of the matter is that most of them just don’t work. In fact, if these tools are used incorrectly, they can end up damaging your skin.

A good home remedy for blackhead removal uses 4 tablespoons of baking soda and 4 tablespoons of water.

Blend these two together and then rub onto your skin in a gentle motion. Let it sit there on the skin surface for 2 – 3 minutes and then rinse off with warm water.

Next, mix 1 teaspoon of Epsom salts into a ¼ cup of boiling water and three drops of iodine. Allow this mixture to cool to a comfortable temperature. Then dip in a clean and fresh cotton ball and dab it onto the affected areas.

All this will allow the blackheads to free up and loosen off. Use a gauze pad or clean tissue to gently squeeze the blackhead. The word GENTLY is important.

Blackheads are formed when natural skin oil known as seburn collects and solidifies in the skin pores. The bunged up toxins that are coming up through the skin surface from the blood and lymph fluids mixes with the seburn and forms a pasty lotion. The lotion becomes black when it exposed to air and the tip of it forms the black pimple we call the blackhead.

The removal of blackheads is important as it may lead to other types of spots forming, especially in people who have naturally oily skin. You must try to keep the surface of the skin clean and clear.

Hence blackheads removal is very important especially for oily type of skin otherwise pimples, acne may occur. The skin’s most dense oil glands are located in T-zone. That is why there you get the most blackheads. It is most important to keep the skin scrupulously clean.

When the blackhead looks ready to pop, try using a pore cleansing strip, Used regularly, these strips can leave your skin pores both smaller and cleaner.

If you feel like you really need to squeeze the blackhead only do so very gently on a blackhead which looks like it is just about to blow. If you try to squeeze a blackhead which is hard, you may end up pushing the infection down below the surface of the skin. Not good.

Another home remedy for blackhead removal

Use an oatmeal or use of an almond mask thoroughly to cleanse and clear your face. Mix either oatmeal or almond powder with an adequate amount of rose water to result in a soft paste that you can apply easily on the affected areas of the skin. Gently rub the mixture on your skin with the tips of your fingers, spending extra time on the problem areas. Leave the mixture to dry like a face pack for about 15 minutes and then rinse off using only cold water.
