The Importance of a Good Diabetic Menu for Diabetic Patients
There are different types of diabetic menu for people with high levels of blood sugar. Having a diabetic menu is good for diabetic patients who are looking for ways to efficiently manage their health at the same time keeping themselves fit. However, it is always best to talk to your doctor before starting a new dietary plan.
A good diabetic menu should contain well-balanced nutrition. It should have the following basic nutrients:
- 50 percent starch
- 30 percent protein
- 20 percent fat and calories
Diets for diabetics should also follow the diabetic food pyramid, which is the ideal guide in devising a diabetic menu. Additionally, keep in mind the following guidelines:
• Never miss or skip your scheduled meals.
• Do not eat or take snacks in between your scheduled meals.

Foods high in cholesterol, fats as well as alcoholic drinks should be avoided as well. Skimmed milk is also a better choice than whole powdered milk.

A good, standard diabetic menu should contain fresh fruits and vegetables as well as any ingredient that is rich in fiber. You can also add beans and legumes to most of the meals that you prepare. Beans and legumes are so versatile that you can put them in almost any main dish that you cook. Also, they are known to be low in calories. It is also best to eat fresh fruits and raw vegetables instead of the canned or frozen ones.
There is no need for diabetic patients to have a “special” diabetic menu. It is just a matter of making healthy choices when selecting recipes, ingredients and the method of cooking.
